Language Acquistion

After speaking with our Parent Educator, she has given us some great guidance on how to help Corinne continue with her linguistic growth :)  Ha!  How do you like that educator jargon?  Anyway, so Corinne has always progressed at her own pace- this usually includes a lengthy "observance" phase where she likes to take everything in.  If we were talking about second language acquisition (and perhaps even l.a. in general), we might call it the "silent period."  Anyway, so Corinne is still at the point where she says some words, and likes to repeat last words of sentences.  She isn't really putting words together (sometimes "______ please") but that's about it.  Our P.E. was asking about how many words Corinne is saying, and I was sure that it wasn't at 50 yet (the point where kids usually start putting words together).  After she left, I took it upon myself to record the words she does say...and to my surprise it is over 50!  For posterity's sake, I am going to record them below: (the list looks much prettier in the "editing" phase)

Corinne is really good at remembering some of her favorite books. She can say the last words of a rhyme, and is good at pointing out the pictures.  She is also "singing" along with some of her favorite songs.  She really likes the "bird" song as she puts it, and sings the last word of some of the lines...she likes to sing along with the "clean up" song and old McDonald, too.

This "language explosion" is very neat to witness; it often catches me off guard, and I marvel at some of the things that she is finally articulating.  As I posted earlier tonight on FB, Corinne was closely examining the beads on her necklace, and out of nowhere started counting, "1,2,3,4, 8, 9, 10."  :)  Ryan and I just looked at each other, amazed.  We are so lucky :)

Geesh its amazing what kiddos can learn when you don't even realize it!!! This age is so much fun! Hunter misses his friend Corinne! We must hang out soon =)

I agree with Danielle...it's amazing how fast our little "sponges" learn! I started noticing the language explosion right after Reese turned 2...now it seems he never stops talking. I kind of wish he would learn the value of a little silence now and then :) Miss you guys!

You forgot she knows how to say Giddy (Gibby) and mine. She does put Gibby sit together (although at times the s comes out at as sh ;)). She cannot say my name, but definitely knew another word... jayme you need watch your language around her haha j/k (or am I? I have it on recorded as proof!).
