On our way home from Preschool, the highway we travel on passes by a Ramada Inn that has a swimming pool. Corinne asked me one day whose swimming pool it was. I explained to her that it was the hotel's pool, to which she prompted inquired "what's a hotel?"
(side note: almost everything that anyone says is followed by a "why" or "what's..." question these days. I was hoping that we'd grow out of this, because too many "why" questions drives me nutty and I run out of insightful, age appropriate responses for her.
Anyway, I explained to her that a hotel is a place where people can stay when they're away from home or on vacation. This seemed to satisfy her curiosity, and I didn't think much else about it.
The next week we were traveling our normal route home when we passed the Ramada. "That's where Carrie is, Mom. She wasn't at school today, she's on 'cation. Can I go on 'cation sometime? Can I bring my swimsuit and my floatie and go swimming?" :)
So in Corinne's world, 'cation involves staying at the Ramada off of 63 and 70 and swimming in the the pool. She talked about going on a 'cation ALL summer, but since I was super pregnant and still had a lot of stuff to do before Weston arrived, we told her she'd have to wait.
So over labor day we spent some time with Ry's family at the Lake of the Ozarks; Mimi, Papi, Aunt Jess, Uncle Reed, & cousins Reese & Savannah. Corinne was SO Excited. They got to go fishing, and ride on a boat, and play, and of course, swim. Corinne even finally started jumping into the pool all by herself, after a summer of coaxing her to do so. :) Even as we sit here 2 weeks later, she's telling me about how fun it was.
'Cation = success!
